Fake: under occupation overprints

November 28th, 2007 No comments

I came across these stamps on eBay which were described as unofficial so that’s a good start but the buyer is implying that some were used as real postage on covers, well there is absolutely no proof of that.

After the occupation of 2003 a lot of these fake overprints turned up but were quickly rejected as fakes. These are examples of this.

Don’t get me wrong, I like these stamps, I think they can be considered as work of art, but as always, I do not like it when sellers make out as if they are selling something which it isn’t.

New Artistamps set – Definitive Set 2007

November 28th, 2007 No comments

A set of eight definitive stamps, the first six are smaller in size than the other two. The stamps have different colours and values from 250 Dinar to 7500 Dinar.

All the stamps have the Iraqi coat of arms in the center of the stamp. The Coat of arms of Iraq includes the golden Eagle of Saladin with a shield of the Iraqi flag, and holding a scroll below with the Arabic words الجمهورية العراقية (al-Jumhuriya al-`Iraqiya or “The Iraqi Republic)”. The original Coat of arms in 1965, did not have the kufic script between the stars and the flag was placed vertically. This version remained in use until replaced by the present version in 2004.

This is a set of 5 stamps in values of 1000,2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 Dinars. The stamps commemorate Nouri Al-Maliki who has been and still is the prime minister of Iraq since 20/5/2006 . His term is suppose to finish in 2010.

Nouri Kamel al-Malaki was born in Abu Gharaq, a central Iraqi town lying between Karbala and Al Hillah, in 20 July 1950.

In 1980, the Saddam Hussein government sentenced al-Maliki to death for his active role in the Dawa party and thereafter he lived in exile, first in Iran[4] and later in Syria.

On December 30, 2006, Maliki signed the death warrant of Saddam Hussein and declined a stay of execution, saying there would be “no review or delay” in the event.

New Artistamps set – Baghdad

This is a new set of stamps which is dedicated to Baghdad. The set consists of four stamps of values, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 5000 Dinars. The stamps each contain a verse from a poem by Kareem Al-Iraqi and sang by Kathem Al-saher which is dedicated to the hard times that Baghdad has endured in the last few years from terrorism and war.

This is the whole poem in Arabic.
